Fields of Interest

" Molecular epidemiology of poultry and human salmonellosis
" Molecular epidemiology of enteric and urogenital pathogens.

Curriculum

I joined the Central Veterinary Laboratory as a Veterinary Research Officer in 1992 as a veterinary research officer.  In addition to routine diagnosis of animal bacterial diseases my major research outputs include "Molecular epidemiology of Staphylococcus aureus in dairy herds in Zimbabwe' and "Distribution of Salmonella serotypes in different poultry farming sectors of Zimbabwe: phenotypic and genotypic characterization of S. enteritidis".  Some findings have been published while most of the salmonella research outputs have been submitted to different journals for consideration.

At national level, I am currently heading the veterinary diagnostics and research programs of the country.  Each year I receive 5 to 10 students on practical attachments from the University of Zimbabwe's Veterinary Faculty, National University of Science and Technology and Midlands State University.  I also supervised several MSc students mainly from the UZ Veterinary Faculty and Biochemistry Department enrolled under the MSc Biotechnology Program. I sit on several national committees and boards which include the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe's Veterinary and Laboratory committees, Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe and I am the current president of the Biotechnology Association of Zimbabwe.

At regional and international level, I am the current chairperson of the SADC Veterinary Diagnostic Subcommittee and have been involved in collaborative research with Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute (OVI), University of Pretoria's veterinary Faculty, University of Sassari, Sardinia, University of Berne, Switzerland and the Royal Veterinary and Agriculture University in Copenhagen.
